Follow Your Throw

To start the drill, one player plays a normal third base position.  One player will be stationed at each remaining base, straddling the bag, as if they are ready to make a tag.  Extra players will line up in foul territory near third base.

Follow Your Throw

  1. Coach (C) hits ground ball to third baseman (P1)
  2. P1 fields ground ball, throws to P2 and follows his throw, replacing P2 at second base
  3. P2 throws to P3 and follows his throw, replacing P3 at first base
  4. P3 throws to P4 and follows his throw, replacing P4 at home plate
  5. P4 flips the ball to the coach and goes to the back of the line in foul territory near third base

Pop-Fly Priority

A pop fly should be an easy play.  Any kid playing travel ball should be able to catch a routine popup.  However, the plays often create a circus in the field because players are not prepared.  A team that is prepared and communicates well should not have a problem.

  • CF has priority over corner outfielders (LF, RF)
  • Outfielders have priority over infielders
  • SS has priority over everyone in the infield
  • Middle infielders (2B, SS) have priority over corner infielders (1B, 3B)
  • Corner infielders (1B, 3B) have priority over P and C
